Tyler Gola 2016-2019

“The only limitations are the ones you place on your own mind”
Tyler, 26

How did being part of the gym impact you—mentally, physically, or emotionally?

Being part of the gym really changed me in many ways. Physically, I got stronger and more confident in what my body can do. Mentally, it helped me focus better and taught me how to stay disciplined, even on days I didn’t feel motivated. Emotionally, the gym became my outlet a place where I could let go of stress and just work on myself. It gave me a sense of belonging and reminded me that progress takes time, but it’s always worth it.

What did you learn through boxing that helped you in everyday life?

Boxing taught me a lot about patience and self-control. You can’t just rush things whether it’s learning a new combo or dealing with life outside the gym. I learned how to stay calm under pressure and how to keep pushing forward, even when things get tough. It also taught me discipline showing up, staying consistent, and giving my best effort, no matter what.

What do you think was the biggest positive change or benefit you gained from training with your Coach?

My coach Cornelius helped me see potential in myself that I didn’t even realize was there. Cornelius pushed me when I needed it but also reminded me to be humble and never give up. The biggest change was probably in my confidence not just in boxing, but in everyday life. I learned how to hold myself accountable and how to believe in my own growth.

Was there a particular Life Value that stuck with you?

The life value that stuck with me most was Respect. Boxing really teaches you to respect your coach, your training partners, and yourself. You learn that respect isn’t just about how you treat others it’s also about showing up, staying humble, and putting in the work even when no one’s watching.

What was your 2 highest achievements in Boxing or achievement during your time in the Gym/Academy?

Apart from my Golden Gloves and South Island champion title, My two biggest achievements were committing to the team and seeing how all our goals came true when we worked hard together and put in the work, The other was how I could get in the ring with anyone and know I can win, those moments made me see that hard work really pays off.

Where are you now, and how did boxing, your Coach or your Academy play a role in getting there?

Right now, I’m in WA excelling in my career and also, I have started boxing again with more confidence, more focus, and I'm more disciplined in everything I do. Boxing and my coach played a huge role in that. They taught me how to handle challenges, stay consistent, and believe in myself. The lessons I learned in the gym go way beyond boxing they’ve shaped how I approach life every day.

What would you say to someone thinking about joining, or to a sponsor considering supporting the gym?

Allow yourself the pleasure of the great rewards and lessons you’ll learn.

What was your favourite part of training at the gym.

The brother hood, knowing that someone also sees what you see.

(in your own words, please write a paragraph of your favourite moment at the gym, with the gym at a destination or perhaps a special memory you shared with the Coach)

Coach Comments:

When I think back on Tyler, a few things stand out immediately. He was an exceptional all-round athlete, but it was his courage that truly set him apart. He thrived on pushing his limits, never intimidated by anyone’s size or strength, and always eager for the next challenge. His natural talent was remarkable, with speed and power that were on another level. Tyler had that rare ability to inspire everyone around him through his can-do attitude and fearless approach to every obstacle.

Yet behind the tough, relentless boxer was a deeply respectful and kind-hearted young man. His sportsmanship, humility, and uplifting attitude made him someone people wanted to be around. Tyler didn’t just compete with strength; he carried himself with character, and that made all the difference.
